Younousse Seye

Born on March 20, 1940 in Saint-Louis (Senegal), Younousse Seye is self-taught but she is above all the first Senegalese woman to invest herself totally in the plastic arts. She paved the way for the fruitful participation of Senegalese women in the development of painting.

By introducing cowrie shells into her works, she initiated a current that is quite widespread today in Senegal and the rest of the world.

Née le 20 mars 1940 à Saint-Louis (Sénégal), Younousse Seye est autodidacte mais elle est surtout la première femme sénégalaise à s'investir totalement dans les arts plastiques. Elle a ouvert la voie à la féconde participation de la femme sénégalaise à l'épanouissement de la peinture.

Par l'introduction de cauris dans ses oeuvres, elle a initié un courant aujourd'hui assez répandu au Sénégal et dans le reste du monde.
